Many types of hernia are in
millions of people worldwide, but the most common form, affecting the majority
of hernia patients is a hiatal hernia. Other types
are: inguinal hernia, umbilical hernia and sports hernia. These types are less
common hernias and hiatal.
Any type of hernia occurs when part of an organ pushes through a tear in the muscle that appears next to him. In the case of a hiatal hernia, the upper part of the stomach enters the breast through an opening in the diaphragm called the hiatus. The diaphragm is the muscle that separates the chest cavity of the abdomen, and the slit is a hole in the diaphragm through which the esophagus to reach the stomach.
As appears a hiatal hernia, the upper end of the
stomach and esophagus to slip through the space, as it has become weakened.
This is called a hiatal sliding hernia. Most hiatal hernias sliding hiatal
hernias, but some people suffer differently, called hernia paraesophageal,
which is slightly dangerous because the stomach can be strangled. Some call
strangulated hiatal hernia for that reason. In a paraesophageal hernia, the
upper stomach and the esophagus does not slide through the hiatus together as
sliding hiatal hernia, but a small part of the stomach slips through it and can
strangle the esophagus and closed his blood supply.
The exact cause of hiatal hernia is not fully known. It can happen after an accident in which the chest or abdomen of the patient is reached, or if the pressure within the abdominal cavity is increased by coughing or repeated during pregnancy.
Surgery for hiatal hernia can be performed using a laparoscope, an instrument used in many types of surgery, which allows the doctor to operate without making a large incision in the chest, but by a very low .
