Cisco SMARTnet is a maintenance contract to cover Cisco hardware and software. It is supplied by Cisco, but generally sold by Cisco Authorized Reseller. Generally, contract duration is one year, but Cisco will provide discounts for longer contracts.

Most Cisco devices running Cisco IOS operating system, which is constantly updated and improved, there are only two ways (legal) for updates to the IOS software, it is to buy each once it changes, the second is to take a SMARTnet contract for your product and download all updates for what they are released.

Categories

Cisco currently each hardware item is assigned a number of class 1 to 18, the more the costs top cover category. So a 800 series router would category 1 and 3620 would be category 7. Unfortunately, this pricing structure was invented before the arrival of Cisco phones' and although they must be of class 0.2 there is not a such category they fall into the category 1 router price range.

Only software or hardware and software support

SMARTnet is sold in two forms, "only software" and "hardware and software", both provide coverage software; ie both entitles you to download Cisco software updates, in addition, the "Hardware and software version" proposes replacing the Cisco device must accept that your hardware is broken.

SMARTnet Base and SMARTnet
