Small Business Big Business Costco Wholesale At

If you own a small business, there's a good chance you're already shopping in a Costco store near you. Based on sales volume Costco has become the largest wholesale network of members worldwide. Well the history of Costco can actually be traced back to a man. It is known as the pioneer of the warehouse store? The retail concept. His name is Sol Price and he started the original warehouse store known as FedMart in 1954. Finally, he would end up selling this chain which is how we arrived at Price Club. Sun next effort came in 1976. That was the year that began with his son Robert Price Club Price. Together they would build the biggest Price Club warehouse store operation in the country.

They started the company on the outskirts of San Diego, California. Initially, they had only one store that was 100,000 square feet. Sol had managed to raise just over $ 2 million to start the business. During the first year they managed about 16 million dollars in sales but they lost $ 750,000. It almost ruined. From there the business took off.

They catered primarily to small businesses and government officials. C
redit card fees for retailers can really add up. They also kept their selection to a minimum but left cheaper to buy in bulk. Generally, they charge only about 10 percent higher than the wholesale cost. They made their profits through volume. And they kept their low overhead.

So that all this information on Price Club has to do with Costco? Well Costco was launched in 1983 by a former employee named James D. Sinegal Price Club, which had been executive vice president and who had worked with Sol Price Club Price FedMart. James was actually the Sam's Club run by the main source of competition from Wal-Mart Price Club. In 1992 Sam's Club was to exceed them. Thus, it was decided that Price Club and Costco merge into a single company. Robert Price became chairman and James Sinegal became CEO.

The new company was named PriceCostco Inc. In a year, the writing was on the wall so the company was again divided. Only this time the company soon after be renamed Costco Wholesale Inc. managed to keep most of the storage locations. Robert Price took other assets with him and formed Price Enterprises Inc.

Ultimately, James D. Sinegal which had helped to found Costco would end up back in charge and even today it still is. With Jeffrey Brotman another founder and chairman. The company made more than $ 60 billion a year in sales and has more than 130,000 employees. It's only real rival is Sam's Club but Costco is the leader in its sector.

We mentioned Sol Price because without him Costco probably would not exist. Essentially, it has created a new way to sell to the public.
